We named her Eevee because in her former neglected life, she was named Stevie. We rescued her from pure hell. She lived in a dirty corner of her owner's yard. As you can see from her dirty and dry bowl, she was not fed. Occasionally she would get leftover pizza crust or scraps. An anonymous good samaritan contacted Rescue Texas for help. The owner did not want to bother with surrendering Eevee to a rescue because he said she would die soon. The owner said she refused to eat and was dying of starvation. THIS WAS NOT OK!
We made arrangements to meet the good samaritan half way between Lufkin and Houston in the middle of the night to get immediate medical care.
Eevee has been recovering since April 2022 due to her organ damage from living in parasites and filth and never being provided with basic nutrition and vet care in the one short year she had been alive.
...this is her story of survival
Eevee was so defeated and had given up. She probably thought she had died and was on her way to heaven since she was hidden in a backyard and nobody could see her. The smell of dirt and yeast was very strong.
Eevee walked herself into the ER and away from her prior life of cruelty. At the vet, there was no surprises. She was severely malnourished, infested with intestinal parasites, fleas, dehydrated, heartworm positive, had muscle wasting. Broken bones are an easy fix compared to internal damage caused by malnutrition and parasites. We knew Eevee would have a long road, but one thing is for sure - she was hungry! She ate, got fluids and a bath.
